Gallery Art Positive has launched its latest exhibition, Baroda Buzz, a dynamic showcase celebrating the artistic heritage and evolving trends from Baroda. The exhibition, curated by Georgina Maddox with co-curator Anu Bajaj, runs from September 5 to October 5 at the gallery in Lado Sarai, New Delhi.
“Baroda has long been recognised as one of India’s foremost art hubs, supporting creative expression since the reign of Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III in the 19th century,” said Maddox. The city’s art scene gained prominence with the founding of the Baroda School in 1956 by N.S. Bendre, which shifted away from revivalist art forms to embrace new, innovative styles.
The exhibition brings together emerging artists from Baroda who explore diverse artistic languages. “The range of mediums and materials showcased is extraordinary, from stitched and burnished surfaces to prints, sculptures, and installations,” Maddox added. The works reflect current global concerns, such as environmental issues and gender equality, alongside personal narratives rooted in cultural and social practices.
Among the featured artists are Shubhakar Tadi, known for his hyperrealist canvases, and Sriya Ramani and Nandhini Srikumar, who channel the rich tradition of Baroda’s narrative painting school. Other highlights include Harisha Chennagod’s geometric abstractions and the mixed media works of Damayanti Debnath and Bansi Dholakiya.

“Visitors will be amazed by the array of styles,” Maddox said. “Each artist has encapsulated and innovated on Baroda’s rich artistic ethos.”
Gopa Roy’s works incorporate organic paper-pulp structures, evoking memories of her homeland, while Kalpana Vishwas showcases intricate renderings of natural forms. Satyanarayan Gavara uses dark hues to convey his agrarian roots, and Govind Vishwas presents symbolic renderings of Baroda and India on diaphanous scrolls.
The exhibition is open daily from 11 AM to 7 PM and promises an engaging look at Baroda’s contemporary art scene.
