The All India Fine Arts and Crafts Society (AIFACS) Gallery in New Delhi is currently hosting a solo art exhibition titled “Integrity, Choice and Life” by conceptual abstract artist Sukhmani Kaur. The exhibition, which runs from August 17 to 22, showcases the unique and thought-provoking work of Kaur, a self-taught artist hailing from Punjab, India.
Dr Kaur, who holds a PhD in finance and serves as an Assistant Professor at Chandigarh University, is also certified in art therapy. Reflecting on her journey, she said, “My work is a tangible depiction of feelings, often inspired by personal experiences, nature, beauty, and psychological or social issues. It’s about expressing the hidden aspects of life”.
Her artistic journey has taken her to some of India’s most prestigious galleries, including Jehangir Art Gallery, Lalit Kala Academy, and the Indian Museum. Internationally, her work has been displayed at esteemed venues such as The Holy Art Gallery in London and Galeria Aries in Paris.
Dr Kaur’s signature style revolves around geodes—natural crystals and minerals formed during volcanic eruptions. “Geodes take millions of years to develop, and they symbolise the layers and complexities of life,” Kaur added. Her work is known not only for its aesthetic beauty but also for its emotional depth, addressing issues that contribute to our growth and life, directly or indirectly.
Kaur’s contributions to the art world have earned her numerous accolades, including the “National Fame Award” for Most Talented Artist in 2021 and the “International Fame Award” for Most Unique Artist in 2023. Her work has also been featured in the “Indian Contemporary Art Journal,” and she has participated in several international art residencies, including the prestigious Château d’Orquevaux in France.
