Art Exhibition: Dehradun-based artist Antra Srivastava presents her solo exhibition, “The Inescapable Presence of Absence”, which will be inaugurated by Dr Sonal Mansingh on August 3, 2024, at Bikaner House, Kalamkar Gallery, New Delhi. The exhibit will be open to the public from August 4 to 7, with visiting hours from 11 am to 7 pm.

Srivastava’s artwork reflects her inner journey, blending surrealism with poetic expression. She infuses her paintings with diverse experiences and draws inspiration from nature. “I remain both a participant and witness in the entire creative process,” Srivastava says, describing her immersion in creative energy.

“The Inescapable Presence of Absence” explores the idea that the absence of something can be felt as a presence. It encourages viewers to think beyond the physical and consider what is not there. This theme invites a reconsideration of our perceptions, urging reflection on the impact of absence.

Srivastava’s artistic journey has been influenced by ancient Indian scriptures and the wisdom of sages. Her collection includes interpretations of the 18 chapters of the Gita, reflections on Sant Kabir’s dohe and saakhees, and portrayals of six elements: air, water, earth, fire, space, and consciousness.

She combines layers of colours to create harmony and rhythm, blurring the lines between abstraction and realism. In the Kabir series, Srivastava resonates with Kabir’s ability to express complex ideas with simplicity. She says, “Life’s intricacies are self-created,” and that “true knowledge emerges from inner silence rather than external teachings.” This series, inspired by his dohe and saakhees, emphasises the experiential aspect of wisdom.

Similarly, the Gita series holds contemporary relevance, especially today. Srivastava interprets the Gita not just as a religious text but as a guide for life. Through her art, she portrays the principles of Karma Yog, Bhakti Yog, and Gyan Yog, making the Gita’s philosophy accessible and relatable.
