The solo exhibition The Last Decade, showcasing the works of renowned artist KG Subramanyan, is currently on display at Vadehra Art Gallery, Defence Colony, New Delhi.
The exhibition, which opened on September 20, 2024, will continue until October 9, 2024. Curated by Professor R Siva Kumar, the showcase marks a centenary celebration of Subramanyan’s life and his contributions to Indian art.
The exhibition features works from the last decade of Subramanyan’s life, a period that saw the artist remain highly active despite his advancing age. “This exhibition captures a particular aspect of his late career. Subramanyan continued to create ambitious works, demonstrating that age had not diminished his artistic abilities,” said Professor Kumar.

“Subramanyan, who passed away in 2016, was a significant figure in post-Independence Indian art. His work, which spanned sculptures, paintings, murals, and academic writings, often engaged with sociopolitical themes and traditional narratives. The exhibition includes three large murals painted between 2009 and 2012, with one spanning over 2000 square feet, highlighting his ongoing engagement with monumental art even in his final years,” he said.
“Subramanyan did not view ageing as a limitation. His two murals in Santiniketan, completed within a month, demonstrate that he continued to push the boundaries of his practice until the very end,” Kumar added.
