Dastkari Haat Samiti brings you its 37th craft bazaar

The Dastkari Haat Samiti will kickstart its 37th year craft bazaar that aims to keep Indian craft legacy alive and artisans afloat. The event will be held between December 16 – 31.

Over the years, it has held over 150 bazaars, conceptualised important interventions and strove to secure the market for Indian artisans. It reintroduced calligraphy into crafts and developed extensive online documentation of 52 crafts from throughout India for the Google Arts & Culture site.

The stunning craft maps of all Indian states, as well as, its many publications on craft practices and projects, are legendary. Dastkari Haat Craft Bazaar’s new edition will feature familiar faces, as well as, new goods and styles.

A Multicultural Event With a Varied Range of Crafts

More than 160 stalls will welcome visitors with a wide variety of weaving, hand block prints, embroideries, crafts in grass, bamboo, metal, wood, and other plant material, jewellery, stationery, pottery and terracotta, and traditional art from tribal Gond to Kalighat, Phads, and Pattachitra.

Besides, there will be brass from Orissa and West Bengal, Terracotta from Rajasthan, Ceramic from UP, Maharashtra, and Delhi, Block Prints from AP and Rajasthan, Ikkat from AP, Ajrak Printing from Gujarat, Weaving from UP and Gujarat.

Special attractions

Rajasthani folk music and Kalbelia dance of Bhutte Khan Manganiar international folk artist from Barmer, Rajasthan.

The ensemble performed in India and 45 other countries across the world. To round up the cultural experience of a real craft mela, special performances were made for Coke Studio, Sony, Colors, Zee, Doordarshan, and Star Plus networks. Chaau Dancers, a BhawniKalindi troupe from West Bengal, will also perform during the bazaar.
