Kids’ film fest 

What: With a host of national and international films, The Kiran Nadar Museum of Art in collaboration with Children’s Film Academy has launched an online film festival for young adults and children. Called ‘Children’s Talkies’ the festival features absorbing cinema to entertain and educate children as well as promote family bonding and universal empathy in the face of a life-changing crisis. It will also be followed by conversations with the film director. Covering a wide spectrum of genres and encompassing many reputed names from the world of cinema the line-up includes I am Williams by Jonas Elmer, Likarion Wainaina’s Supa Modo (Kenya), Dhanak by Nagesh, Kukunoor Naal by Sudhakar Reddy among others.

Empowering craftsmen

What: Weavers, artisans and craftsmen have faced a lot of hardship due to the Coronavirus. In view of this, architects couple Rajeev Lunkad and Sheela Lunkad have launched a unique initiative “Shilp Se Swavalamban“. The programme intends to provide a  way out of the restrictions created by Covid-19 by opening a digital platform to the craftsmen through which they can reach the prospective buyers directly, thus helping them out in these distressing times. They launched the campaign “Empowerment through Craft” whereby one can get original best quality handcrafted designs from different craftsmen across the country at wholesale prices.  This web-based platform also allows designers, craftsmen and buyers to collaborate and start a project of their own.

Music siesta

What: Presented through poetry, music and dance, this year’s event is specially curated for the online space. The program ‘Tridha – Power of the Three Energies’ is themed around the three divine energies of  Creation, Preservation and Regeneration. It features three leading exponents of Rabindra Sangeet cutting across three generations – Pramita Mullick is the most respected Rabindra Sangeet exponent across the spectrum, Jayati Chakrabarty has gained immense popularity amongst the Bengali and non-Bengali audiences, and Priyangee Lahiri is the leading performer amongst the younger generation. Within this unique frame of divine energies, each artiste will explore a different aspect of Tagore’s repertoire, themed around each of the energies.
