Victims of the race


What: Expressing her emotions about the rat race in this competitive world on canvas, artist Arpita Chandra’s works are on display at the exhibition, ‘Dream’. According to her, people have become victims of the materialistic world, the sickness of which she portrays through her art. In her exhibition, colour, various types of new objects and symbols will have their own approach to the philosophy of life. Fantasy and reality find equal representation in her paintings.

Musical tribute


What: Immerse yourself in an evening of seamless dance and music. ‘Samadrishti’ (which means looking together at each other with a sense of respect and equanimity), is a collaboration between Chennai-based Carnatic singer Sudha Ragunathan and Delhi-based Bharatnatyam dancer Rama Vaidyanathan. Both the artists have come together to pay tribute to the late Carnatic music maestro ML Vasanthakumari on her 90th birth anniversary. Sudha and Rama will revisit some of the compositions popularised by MLV Amma in her concerts and in Tamil cinema.

Blooming forms


What: Showcasing the brilliant visual elements of nature, artist A Ramachandra presents, The Changing Mood of the Lotus Pond and Insignificant Incarnations. The exhibition has on display seven large paintings of lotus ponds that the artist has painted over the decade. It highlights the life cycle of these plants, their beauty and complex forms. For the 10 paintings in Insignificant Incarnations, Ramachandran uses elements like insects, birds, animals, a woman who is the embodiment of an energising life force, rock formations, a water pot and an artist who is present both as an observer and a participant.

History on canvas


What: In the 17th century, the British, Dutch and French East India Company established their headquarters in India for trade. Fascinated with the country, these Europeans began to commission works to local artists to paint and document the land. This style emerged as The Company School of Paintings. Documenting the last living masters who have been commissioned to work on the Company School Paintings, Seema Bhalla has put together a collection of the traditional miniature paintings. Titled ‘The Allure of India’, the exhibition looks into the 300 years of this shared art history from the 17th to the early 20th century.
