LTC Gallery at Bikaner House will present ‘Light as Creation’, a solo exhibition by self-taught artist Divyaman Singh, from August 21 to 24. Curated with the advisory of Uma Nair, the show features a contemplative series of oil-on-canvas works exploring light, land, and solitude through minimalist abstraction.
Singh, who grew up in Chaugain village in Bihar’s Buxar district, draws deeply from his connection to the forests and mountains of his childhood—landscapes he calls his “true source of inspiration.” Working with bare hands, palette knives, linen cloth, and brushes, he creates richly textured surfaces in a restrained palette, often limited to two colours. This pared-down style allows emotion and form to take precedence, with recurring themes of spiritual enlightenment, cosmic unity, and timeless natural rhythms.
The new series includes impressionistic landscapes and tree studies where colour and light act as metaphors for memory, transformation, and the eternal. A scarlet and blue suite within the show evokes transitional moments like sunrise and sunset, echoing tides of emotion and ancient memory. “These are pages of the earth,” says Nair, describing the works’ meditative pull.

Influenced by thinkers and poets such as Etel Adnan, Rachel Carson, and Anaïs Nin, Singh infuses his practice with an ecological and philosophical sensibility. His blue series—rooted in the imagery of the sea—uses ultramarine, burnt sienna, muddy browns, and radiant oranges to create what he calls a “visual poetry of existence,” where light becomes both subject and source.
