The five avatars of Shiva will come to life through the ancient Indian dance form – Bharatnatyam, this weekend. The event, organised by the School of Performing Arts & Indic Studies, REVA University, will showcase social issues such as gender equality through a tapestry of Bharatnatyam.

The show ‘Pancavaktram’ will highlight the five faces of Shiva in a combination of dance forms such as Kuchipudi, Mohiniattam, Odissi and Kathak.

The evening will be graced by Dr. M Dhanamjaya (Vice Chancellor, REVA University), Padma Shri Prathibha Prahlad (Founder Director, Delhi International Arts Festival), Padma Shri Guru Rama Vaidyanathan (Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardee, Directors of Ganesha Natyalaya), Sri. Vijay Pal Singh Tomar (ACP, Delhi Police, Asian Games Gold Medalist Athlete), Guru Jayaprabha Menon (Director, International Academy of Mohiniyattam), Padma Shri Guru Shaswati Sen (Secretary & Guru, Kalashram, Pt. Birju Maharaj’s institution), Guru Jai Kishan (Renowned Kathak Artist, Son of Padma Vibhushan Pandit Birju Maharaj).

‘Panchavaktram’ – the production, in its aim to spread awareness, will bring out the importance of gender equality and saving the natural sources through delightfully juxtaposing stories from our ancient Puranas and Indian philosophy.

The production will artistically exhibit how the five elements, manifested by the five faces of Shiva, divine in themselves, superimpose each other with ease in their existence and movement creating harmony and balance in nature.

The five faces of Siva i.e., Sadyojata, Vamadeva, Aghora, Tatpurusha and Eshana is the embodiment of the Panchatatva i.e., Bhumi, Jal, Agni, Vayu and Akash. This production is based on some rare stories that are sourced from medieval texts relating to one tatva and its corresponding form of Shiva.
