Kathak artist Jayashree Acharya and her disciples are all set to enthrall audiences at “Prayaas 2023”. Scheduled for November 25, 2023, at 06:30 PM, this event will unfold at Apparel House Gurugram.
Featuring a stellar lineup including Guest Artist Preetisha Mohapatra, this event promises an unforgettable experience. Personalities like Shovana Narayan, Jayant Kastuar, Ravindra Mishra, Chitra Sharma, and Dibakar Das (Deputy Director – S & F, CCRT) are among the guests on the list.
Curator Jayashree Acharya expressed her deep connection with Kathak, stating, “Kathak has been my window into the rich world of Dance, Rhythm, Melody, and Poetry, besides that of people, emotions, and the forever changing world around us.”
Discussing her initiative ‘Prayaas’, Acharya emphasised, “Prayaas is my attempt to bring this rich medium of expression and education to the young inquisitive minds drawn to Kathak”.
“The program of Prayaas is inextricably linked with the training needs of our students. The pieces conceptualised for each group aim to challenge their physical skills of dance movements, while stimulating the intellect with various genres of music, poetry, rhythm, and emotions,” she highlighted.
“A dancer’s training begins with training the body to achieve speed, flow, and dexterity in movement, along with a basic understanding of rhythm,” Acharya said.
Regarding the purpose of Nritt sections in Kathak, Acharya added, “The Nritt sections, such as the Tarana, sargam, or a string of various compositions in a Taal, are aimed at achieving sync where the body internalises each beat, note, and step in harmony”.
