‘Ramayana in World Art and Thought’- an anthology launch

A new anthology, Ramayana in World Art and Thought – An Anthology of Diverse Perspectives, edited by Padmashri Shovana Narayan, is set to be unveiled today at 6 PM at Lecture Room II, IIC Annexe Basement, New Delhi. The book, produced by Shubhi Publication, brings together the insights of sixteen distinguished scholars, historians, and thought leaders who explore the timeless epic’s impact across cultures, disciplines, and historical eras.

The anthology features contributions from renowned experts including Sharon Lowen, Lady Kishwar Desai, Amb. (Retd.) Sangeeta Bahadur, Shovana Narayan, Dr K K Mishra, Dr Abira Bhattacharya, Rear Admiral (Retd.) Dr S Kulshreshtha, and Rana Safvi, among others. Their essays delve into the Ramayana’s profound influence on ethics, spirituality, and morality, offering fresh perspectives on its significance in global art, literature, and thought.

Readers will embark on an intellectual journey exploring a wide range of topics, from the historical connections between Ayodhya and South Korea to elements of Rama’s journey found in Punjab. The anthology also examines the impact of the Ramayana on Mughal paintings, the warrior persona of Rama, the devotion (‘bhakti’) of Hanuman, the strength (‘shakti’) of Sita, and the rich ecological landscape depicted in the epic.

Designed as a coffee table book, Ramayana in World Art and Thought is expected to captivate not just scholars but also history enthusiasts, art lovers, and those intrigued by the Ramayana’s enduring legacy.

The launch event will feature an insightful discussion with contributing authors and scholars, offering a deep dive into their research and perspectives on this revered epic.
