Reliving Premchand’s Bade Bhai Sahab

A comic adaptation of Munshi Premchand’s ‘Bade Bhai Sahab’ is to be staged this Sunday.

Categorising Big B as ‘Ind-lish’, Dr M Sayeed Alam, who’s directing the play along with Niti Phool has stated that “it is the first of its own kind”.

Big B – for the first time in the history of Indian theatre is a play in broken-English. The story centres on two brothers who speak Hindi improving one another’s English. They are Samta Prasad, who is “sporty,” and Kamta Prasad, who is “studious.” Thus, the play’s themes of history and hockey, geography and gully danda, and chemistry and cricket are all prominent.

Conversations about the night being ‘nighty’ and rising at five to ‘arouse’ the other one at six are all over the play, along with a lot to be seen and laughed at.

Where – LTG Group Auditorium, Mandi House, New Delhi
When – Sunday, 30 Oct 2022, 7:00 pm
