Shriram Bharatiya Kala Kendra is set to captivate the cultural enthusiasts of the capital with its highly anticipated annual event featuring the mythical characters of Indian mythology. Meera, Karna, and Shree Durga will be brought to life in a mesmerising dance drama directed by Shobha Deepak Singh, Vice Chairperson and Director of Shriram Bharatiya Kala Kendra.

The choreography by Shashidharan Nair, melodic music by Shubha Mudgal, exquisite costumes, and seamless integration of special effects will enhance the three distinct performances, creating an immersive experience that preserves their essence.

In this year’s chapter of the Kendra Dance Festival, Shobha Deepak Singh expresses, “The characters Meera, Karna, and Shree Durga have an enduring place in everyone’s hearts because they strike an emotional chord that resonates even in today’s modernized souls. By subtly contemporizing them through choreography, music, special effects, and more, we aim to convey the relevance of their sentiments from yesteryears to the present generation in a subtle and accessible way. Each year, we strive to nurture tradition while keeping the interests of the contemporary mindset intact.”

The three sequences will be showcased on the following dates:

Thursday, May 25, 2023: MEERA’s tale showcases her ability to express the turmoil of her life through poetry. Meera’s life serves as a metaphor for the experiences of countless women, with her name echoing through the centuries. Wherever Meera went, she spread the message of liberation and called for inner awakening, fueled by the effervescence of her poetry.

Saturday, May 27, 2023: KARNA portrays a persona from the epic Mahabharata, whose life was marked by unrelenting hostility. Karna’s circumstances remained consistently adverse, and his misfortunes became a perpetual predicament. This ballet is dedicated to all the Karnas who are denied their rightful place in society, shedding light on their plight. Karna’s life in the epic is adorned with magnificent misadventures and acts of valor, eliciting empathy.

Sunday, May 28, 2023: SHREE DURGA’s persona continues to resonate even in today’s context, where daily exposure to atrocities against women persists. When the gods themselves become victims of the boons they grant, they invoke SHREE SHAKTI, the feminine power, to vanquish the demons in society. This powerful portrayal exemplifies that female strength triumphs over the mindless demons prevailing in society.

When: May 25 to May 28

Where: Kamani Auditorium, New Delhi
