While both the central and the state governments are busy in a political rift, the nation’s capital is witnessing a worrying trend of rising crimes. With more than 277 cases of murders in 2022, Delhi has seen a rise of 18% in total number of murder cases as compared to the year 2021. Besides, a total number of 473 cases of attempts to murder have been registered till date.
Just a day ago, in the Neb Sarai area of Delhi’s Southern District, 29-year-old Kapil Panwar was shot dead while his friend Pramod suffered three bullet wounds on his right leg. The dispute emerged allegedly because of a gambling racket in the area. According to sources, Kapil was shot seven times in his chest, while a total of 11 bullets were pumped into them.
Police officials stated that Kapil had a criminal record and an investigation is underway. “The person who informed the attackers about the victim’s presence has been arrested, while the CCTV cameras are being checked,” stated one of the cops working on the case.
Another murder was reported from the Saket area. A 44-year-old man was beaten to death by a group of four men, over a heated argument where abuses were hurled at each other. Two of the four people involved in this case have been arrested by the police while the others are on a run.
Arvind Sah, the deceased, worked as a labourer and had a drinking problem, which later became the cause of his death, as stated by his brother Arun, who lived with him in the same house.
In Delhi’s Vikaspuri, the manager of an LED manufacturing factory was brutally stabbed more than a dozen times. The man was later identified as Omkar, aged 23 when his body was recovered from the bushes.
The police has stated that his mobile phone has been missing while his wallet and gold rings were found along with the dead body, and thus this isn’t a case of a complete robbery.
When a senior Police officer was approached by the Patriot, about the rising murder cases in Delhi, he stated that Delhi has dangerously changed after the lockdown. “People with no criminal record or history are being caught in cases of brutal murders. They are the common people murdering the other commons of the city”, he stated.
“The Delhi Police is working day and night to catch these miscreants, but the increased number of cases have made it tough for us as well”, he concluded.
