India celebrated its 75th Republic Day with fervour, showcasing its military prowess and cultural diversity in a parade held at Kartavya Path in the heart of the national capital. The tricolour was unfurled, and the event was graced by the presence of French President Emmanuel Macron as the chief guest.

This year’s parade, centred around the themes of ‘Viksit Bharat’ and ‘Bharat – Loktantra Ki Matruka,’ witnessed the participation of 13,000 special guests. Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid homage to the fallen heroes at the National War Memorial.

Delhi Police’s all-woman contingent, led by Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Shweta K Sugathan, marched down Kartavya Path for the first time. The contingent, donned in red ‘safa’, comprised female gazetted officers, sub-inspectors, head-constables, and constables.

The Delhi Police contingent, participating in every Republic Day Parade since 1950, holds the distinction of being adjudged the best marching contingent 15 times.

The all-women pipe band of the Delhi Police, led by bandmaster sub-inspector Ruyangunuo Kense, also made history during the parade.

A special contingent consisting of 144 women soldiers, including representatives from the Army, Indian Air Force, and Indian Navy, added to the significant display of women’s participation. The Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) contingents also featured exclusively women personnel.

French President Macron witnessed the grand military parade and cultural performances. Alongside him were President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Modi, members of the Union Cabinet, foreign diplomats, and other dignitaries. This marked the sixth occasion where a French leader presided as the chief guest at the Republic Day Parade.

Expressing gratitude, Macron posted on social media, “A great honour for France. Thank you, India.” He extended warm wishes to Prime Minister Modi and the people of India, emphasising the exceptional partnership between the two nations. Macron highlighted the significance of consolidating the partnership, particularly in fostering collaboration among the youth.
