I want Alia Bhatt to play my character in the Shaktimaan film: Vaishnavi Macdonald

Actress Vaishnavi Macdonald has expressed her desire for young industry faces to play her character if a film is made about the superhero series Shaktimaan.

She played the role of journalist Geeta Vishwas, the female lead, in the hit television serial, from 1998 to 2005.

“If a film is being made on Shaktimaan and includes my character, I would love to see a young, spunky actress in the role,” she told Patriot in a telephonic interview.

Suggesting potential names, she said, “I think Shraddha Kapoor, Kiara Advani, and my favourite, Alia Bhatt, who is my first choice are perfect for the role.”

When asked about reports of a Shaktimaan film, Vaishnavi confirmed, “Yes, a film is being made.”

She also discussed potential names for the character of Shaktimaan in the film. “Though Ranveer Singh was initially approached for the role, the lead actor has not been finalised yet. The makers have kept it a mystery,” she revealed.

Vaishnavi described her character Geeta as iconic. “It was an iconic role. Generations to come will remember it. I considered it small, but the audience’s love made it bigger. Through this role, I remain alive in people’s hearts,” she said.

Recalling her work with Anil Kapoor in Laadla (1994), where she performed as an item girl in the song Ladki Hai Kya, she shared an anecdote.

“During a running sequence, my stiletto heel broke after the 30th retake. I started crying, but Anil Kapoor calmed me down, saying he would do another retake without worry,” said Vaishnavi, who has appeared in films like Maidan-E-Jung, Bambai Ka Babu, Baabul, Super Nani, Dosti Ke Side Effects and others.

With over three lakh Instagram followers, she reflected on social media’s impact. “During Shaktimaan, I had a Facebook account but wasn’t active. Back then, face-to-face conversations mattered more. Now, social media has changed how we connect,” she said.

“We can interact with fans and even share good lessons on social media, but sometimes it takes away a lot of time which could be utilised for creative work instead,” she added.

Vaishnavi still prefers television over films. “TV offers immediate feedback and financial stability. In films, unless you are a big star, you don’t receive the same love,” she remarked.

She believes Bollywood lacks well-written female characters. “The industry is dominated by male roles. Women-centric stories are rare. If more such roles existed, we wouldn’t have to rely on TV,” said Vaishnavi, who currently plays Parminder Rajveer Bajwa in Parineetii on Colors TV.

The 51-year-old actress also spoke about Delhi and said she enjoys visiting the city. “I often come to Delhi for shoots and to meet friends. I love shopping and the food there,” she said.

Vaishnavi, who is also a certified nutritionist, voiced concerns about rising heart issues among youngsters.

“They consume too much junk food. It’s important to focus on organic, natural diets as adulteration is rampant. Youth need to change their lifestyle,” she advised.
