
Over 700 cases of alleged violations of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) have been registered ahead of the February 5 Delhi Assembly elections, an official said on Sunday.
The violations occurred between January 7, when the MCC came into effect, and January 25.
During this period, 21,841 individuals were arrested under various legal provisions, including the Excise Act, according to a statement.
In preparation for the elections, police have ramped up surveillance at border checkpoints and launched operations targeting illegal activities such as the smuggling of arms, liquor, and drugs.
The Delhi Police has documented 718 cases of MCC violations, confiscating 348 illegal firearms and 439 cartridges, the statement noted.
Additionally, authorities have seized 57,504 litres of liquor valued at over Rs 1.7 crore, 155.08 kg of drugs worth more than Rs 72 crore, and over 1,200 banned injections.
Law enforcement agencies also confiscated Rs 6.19 crore in cash and 37.39 kg of silver, the statement added.

Polling for all 70 Assembly seats in Delhi is scheduled for February 5, with the counting of votes to take place on February 8.
