On December 10, Governor of Uttar Pradesh Anandiben Patel will inaugurate a two-day conference of health ministers in Varanasi to observe “Universal Health Coverage Day – 2022.”

It will be inaugurated in the presence of Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya. Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, will attend the conclave on day two, according to a release from the Union Health Ministry.

Various state health ministers will be present at the occasion. 900 community health officers or Health and Wellness Center in-charges and medical officers from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Uttarakhand, as well as national experts and development and implementing partners supporting the rollout of Ayushman Bharat Health and Wellness Centers (AB-HWCs), will also attend the conclave. State officials attending include ACS/principal secretaries (health), National Health Mission directors, and Director Health.

More than 1,200 participants will participate in the conference.

Universal Health Coverage aims for “all people (to) have access to needed promotive, preventive, curative and rehabilitative health services of sufficient quality to be effective while also ensuring that people do not suffer financial hardship when paying for these services”, the statement said.

In 2017, December 12 was officially declared “International Universal Health Coverage Day” by the UN. This year’s theme, “Build the World We Want: A Healthy Future for All,” emphasises the critical role that health insurance plays in ensuring that everyone has a bright future.

Additionally, improving healthcare service delivery and focusing on Universal Health Coverage are two of the G20 health track’s top priorities.

Three ministerial sessions on the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM) and 15th Finance Commission grants for health, disease elimination (tuberculosis, Kala Azar, Lymphatic filariasis, malaria, leprosy, and TB), and implementation of Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojna (PMJAY) and the distribution of PMJAY cards will be held as part of the conclave.

At the opening ceremony, Mandaviya will also launch the SASHAKT portal, Tele-MANAS (Tele Mental Health Assistance and Networking Across States), operating guidelines for AB-HWCs, and training programmes for community health workers.

He will also honour the top-performing states and the Union Territory in the categories of “tele consultation,” “ABHA ID generation and seeding in various health portals,” and “achievement of HWCs operationalization against target.”
