5 Delhi gardens where Amaltas blooms beautifully every summer

As Delhi battles scorching temperatures and heatwave alerts, the city also undergoes a quieter seasonal transformation. Every year, around late April and through May and June, bright yellow clusters of Amaltas flowers begin appearing across roads, gardens, and public spaces, briefly turning parts of the capital into golden landscapes. The flowering tree, scientifically known as Cassia fistula and commonly called the “golden shower tree,” thrives in Delhi’s intense heat and dry weather, unlike many other flowering species.

The bloom has become so closely associated with Delhi summers that many residents consider it the city’s own seasonal marker. The flowering usually lasts for over a month and continues until the onset of the monsoon, depending on weather conditions and sunlight exposure.

If you are looking to step outside and catch Delhi at its golden best, these five gardens offer ideal spots to experience the annual Amaltas bloom.

Lodhi Garden

One of Delhi’s most loved green spaces, Lodhi Garden combines heritage structures with expansive lawns and tree-lined pathways. During summer, the yellow blooms often frame its centuries-old tombs and walking trails, making early mornings and evenings especially picturesque. Apart from fitness enthusiasts and regular walkers, photographers frequently head here during bloom season for the contrast of yellow flowers against stone monuments.

Garden of Five Senses

Spread across nearly 20 acres in Saket, the Garden of Five Senses offers a more curated landscape experience. The space features themed gardens, water features, and winding pathways. Horticulture experts associated with the park note that Amaltas remains among Delhi’s most visually striking summer trees due to its prolonged blooming period.

Sunder Nursery

Over the years, Sunder Nursery has become one of Delhi’s most popular urban retreats. With restored heritage structures, landscaped greens, and long walking paths, the park offers plenty of shaded stretches where seasonal flowering trees become part of the experience. Visitors often prefer it for slower walks and quieter surroundings.

Nehru Park

Located in Chanakyapuri, Nehru Park remains one of Delhi’s largest public parks and is known for its open spaces and mature tree cover. During bloom season, the bright yellow flowers stand out against wide green lawns, creating a softer and less crowded setting for those seeking a peaceful summer outing.

Buddha Jayanti Park

Nestled along the Delhi Ridge, Buddha Jayanti Park remains among the city’s more underrated green spaces. Its relatively quieter environment and large tree cover make it ideal for visitors wanting to avoid crowds. During late spring and early summer, the park’s flowering trees add colour across walking routes and open stretches.

For Delhiites, Amaltas has become more than a flowering tree. In a city increasingly shaped by concrete and rising temperatures, these brief weeks of golden bloom offer a reminder that summer in the Capital still carries moments of beauty.
