UPSC: An aspirant for the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Service Prelims exam in Gurugram was denied entry because she arrived late. A poignant video capturing her parents’ distress has gone viral online.

In the video, the aspirant’s mother is seen fainting while her father expresses his anguish.

“Papa, please drink some water. Why are you reacting this way? I’ll take the exam next year. It’s not a big deal,” the aspirant tries to console her father, visibly distressed by the situation.

“An entire year is lost,” her father laments, to which she responds reassuringly, “It’s alright! I’m still young.”

The footage also shows the father and daughter trying to comfort the mother, who refuses to leave, saying, “I won’t go.”

Parents who accompanied their daughter for the UPSC Prelims exam today are in distress as she was not allowed entry for being late. The exam starts at 9:30 am, and they arrived at the gate at 9 am but were denied entry by the principal of S.D. Adarsh Vidyalaya, Sector 47, Gurugram.”

Social media users have expressed their empathy, sharing similar experiences and offering support to the family.

One user noted, “They allowed candidates until 9:25 AM and then closed the gate. It depends on the principal.”

Another user shared, “I attended the exam yesterday, and they let me in after 9 AM. But it varies depending on the principal. Some allowed entry until 9:25 AM and then closed the gate.”

“Respect to his daughter for staying strong in this situation,” commented another user.

“A good UPSC candidate, she didn’t lose her composure seeing her mother cry, but it’s sad for the crying aunty,” added another user.

The UPSC Prelims 2024 was held in two shifts — morning and afternoon — on Sunday. The morning shift for GS paper 1 started at 9:30 am, while the afternoon shift for GS paper 2 (CSAT) began at 2:30 pm.
