Delhi: A businessman was shot by two assailants on a motorcycle near the Bhairon temple in central Delhi’s Tilak Marg on Friday night, police said on Sunday.
The victim, identified as Rajendra, a Noida resident and owner of a perfume shop in Chandni Chowk’s Tilak Bazar, was returning home around 10:15 pm when the attack took place.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) Devesh Mahla, the suspects had allegedly been following Rajendra and opened fire as he approached the temple. Despite being injured, Rajendra managed to contact a business associate, who rushed him to hospital.
The incident was subsequently reported to police by the hospital authorities. Rajendra remains under medical treatment, officials said.
A case of attempted murder, along with charges under the Arms Act, has been registered at Tilak Marg police station. Six police teams, comprising over 35 officers, were formed to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
