Delhi Police on Wednesday said that they have recovered 555 stolen, snatched, and lost mobile phones valued at approximately Rs 2 crore.

In a post on the social networking site X (formerly Twitter), Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Shahdara, Prashant Gautam shared an update on a significant recovery operation.

DCP stated that the recovery was part of their special operation, ‘Vishwas’. “Of the recovered phones, 428 were traced in Delhi, 100 in Uttar Pradesh, with additional recoveries across Bihar, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, and other states,” he said.

The operation was conducted in two phases, with 311 mobile phones recovered between April and July, and another 244 recovered between October and December.

Police teams utilised methods such as IMEI searches, CDR analysis, and the CEIR portal to track and identify active stolen devices. IMEI, which stands for International Mobile Equipment Identity, is a unique 15-17 digit code assigned to every mobile phone, allowing service providers to identify valid devices.

According to the DCP, the stolen phones, which had an average grey market value of Rs 3,000 to Rs 5,000, were linked to cases of robbery, burglary, snatching, and theft.
