Delhi Police have dismantled an interstate syndicate engaged in the illegal trade of psychotropic drugs with the arrest of three men and the seizure of 2,160 capsules of the banned substance Tramadol, officials said on Thursday.

The accused have been identified as Harish Khurana (55), Gautam Singh, and Amit Goyal (49). Police said the trio was part of a supply chain that ferried Tramadol capsules from Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh to Delhi’s Bhagirath Palace, a major wholesale medicine market.

Acting on specific intelligence, a police team laid a trap near the Tis Hazari Court complex on June 1 and apprehended Khurana while he was delivering a consignment of the drug. The entire stock of 2,160 capsules was recovered from his possession.

According to officials, Khurana, who operated a small Ayurvedic medicine shop in Bhagirath Palace, had previously been arrested in similar cases. He allegedly resumed the illegal trade after his release from jail in 2024 and used his store as a front for distributing the banned medication.

His interrogation led police to Gautam Singh, a local supplier who also ran a shop in Bhagirath Palace. Singh had initially worked as a medicine packer before starting his own business selling over-the-counter drugs and cosmetics. Police said he was found to be receiving consignments of Tramadol from Amit Goyal in Gorakhpur.

Goyal, the third accused, owned a medical shop in Gorakhpur’s Bhalotia Market, a prominent pharmaceutical wholesale hub. “He admitted to dispatching Tramadol capsules via courier services, disguising them as regular medicine parcels,” an officer said.

All three men have been arrested and booked under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Further investigation is ongoing to trace other links in the supply chain.
