
Delhi Polls: More than 1,000 cases of alleged Model Code of Conduct (MCC) violations have been registered in the run-up to the Delhi Assembly elections scheduled for February 5, an official confirmed on Monday.
These cases were recorded between January 7, when the MCC came into effect, and February 2.
During this period, a total of 33,434 individuals have been arrested under various legal provisions, including the Excise Act, as per an official statement.
In preparation for the elections, the police have heightened surveillance at border checkpoints and intensified crackdowns on unlawful activities such as arms, liquor, and drug smuggling.
Delhi Police has registered 1,049 cases of alleged MCC violations and seized 462 illegal firearms along with 510 cartridges. Additionally, 482 individuals have been arrested under the Arms Act, according to the statement.
Authorities have also confiscated 1,08,258 litres of liquor, arresting 1,353 people, and seized 196.602 kg of drugs valued at over Rs 77.9 crore. Moreover, more than 1,200 banned injections have been recovered, leading to the arrest of 177 individuals.

Law enforcement agencies have further seized Rs 11.23 crore in cash and 37.39 kg of silver, the statement added.
The elections for the 70-member Delhi Assembly are set for February 5, with the vote counting scheduled for February 8.
