Around 6,000 people participated in International Day of Yoga programmes organised by the New Delhi Municipal Council at nine locations across the national capital on Sunday, officials said.
The events were organised in coordination with the Ministry of AYUSH and several yoga organisations at venues including Lodhi Garden, Talkatora Garden, Kartavya Path, Pandara Park, Palika Park and Chanakyapuri.
According to an official statement, Union Health Minister J P Nadda participated in a yoga session at Shanti Path, while Minister of State for Jal Shakti Raj Bhushan Chaudhary attended the programme at Lodhi Garden.
Taking part in a yoga session at the PSOI complex in Chanakyapuri, NDMC Chairman Keshav Chandra said yoga should become a part of everyday life rather than being confined to an annual observance, the statement read.
“Yoga is not merely a practice for a single day; it is a way of life that should become an integral part of our daily routine,” Chandra said, according to the statement.
He added regular yoga practice helps promote physical fitness, mental clarity and emotional balance.
According to the statement, yoga sessions were also organised at old-age homes, working women’s hostels, AYUSH units, residential welfare associations and various council offices.
Council member Anil Valmiki, who participated in a programme at Valmiki Sadan on Mandir Marg, said the initiative reflected efforts to promote healthier lifestyles and wellness among residents and civic staff.
The civic body said it deployed around 1,000 personnel and made necessary arrangements for participants at the venues.
