Delhi LG hails role of preventive care in ensuring senior citizens’ dignity

Delhi LG Taranjit Singh Sandhu on Friday underscored the importance of preventive heathcare for senior citizens and said society has the responsibility to ensure they could live with greater ease and dignity.

He was speaking as the chief guest at a free preventive care health camp in Wazirpur here, where more than 200 senior citizens underwent screenings for oral, eye, ENT, orthopaedic and nutritional health, according to an official statement.

Sandhu congratulated the organisers for bringing preventive healthcare closer to senior citizens.

The day-long camp was organised by the Illness to Wellness Foundation, in partnership with the Varishth Nagrik Kesari Club, to promote early detection and preventive healthcare among senior citizens.

The screenings covered oral health, vision, mobility, hearing, nutrition and overall quality of life, with the initiative encouraging senior citizens to be proactive about regular health checks and addressing age-related concerns before they affect everyday life.

The camp aimed to also commemorate the martyrdom of Amar Shaheed Lala Jagat Narayan. Blue Card members of the club were provided financial assistance and essential goods as part of the initiative, the statement said.

Sandhu said senior citizens were a symbol of dignity, sensitivity and responsibility, and society had a responsibility to ensure they could live with greater ease and dignity.

He highlighted the relevance of Lala Jagat Narayan’s life and values, the statement said.

Anil Rajput, chairman of the advisory council of the Illness to Wellness Foundation, said preventive healthcare has become increasingly important with age and regular screenings could help identify potential health concerns at an early stage.

Kiran Chopra, director of Punjab Kesari and chairperson of the Senior Citizen Kesari Club, said the participation in the camp reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to the wellbeing, dignity and care of senior citizens.

A team of medical experts supported the camp, including Dr Rahul Manchanda, senior consultant in endoscopic gynaecology at PRSI Hospital, and Dr Dhiraj Bhatia, senior physician and cardiologist, according to the statement.
