The National Cooperative Consumers’ Federation of India (NCCF) has announced that it successfully sold 71,500 kg of tomatoes at subsidised prices during a two-day mega sale held in preparation for Independence Day. The sale aimed to alleviate the financial burden on consumers caused by high tomato prices.

This initiative spanned across 70 different locations within the national capital, including Seelampur and R K Puram in Delhi, as confirmed by a statement from the cooperative.

The distribution of tomatoes during this sale was split, with 36,500 kg sold on August 12 and an additional 35,000 kg sold on August 13. These tomatoes were made available to consumers at a subsidised rate of Rs 70 per kg.

This move follows NCCF’s ongoing efforts, starting from July 11, to provide discounted tomatoes as part of their collaboration with the Consumer Affairs Ministry. The aim of these initiatives is to enhance the domestic availability of tomatoes and to manage their prices. The special mega sale was conducted in light of the upcoming Independence Day celebration.

The Consumer Affairs Ministry has attributed the decreasing prices of tomatoes across the nation to these consistent interventions and measures taken by NCCF. This situation reflects a positive impact on the affordability and accessibility of tomatoes for consumers across various locations in the country. (With inputs from PTI)
