Preparations for handling medical emergencies during the upcoming G20 Summit in the city are in full swing, with the deployment of 80 medical teams, 130 ambulances, and advanced life support units for VVIP convoys. Additionally, five government hospitals and three private medical facilities have been put on high alert to ensure the safety and well-being of attendees.
The G20 Summit, scheduled from September 9 to 10 at the newly constructed Bharat Mandapam in Pragati Maidan, is expected to draw more than 30 heads of state, high-ranking officials from the European Union, invited guest countries, and 14 leaders of international organizations.
Delhi’s Health Minister, Saurabh Bharadwaj, announced during a press conference that the city government is fully supportive of the Centre’s efforts and has made comprehensive arrangements for medical contingencies. He highlighted the deployment of advanced life support (ALS) systems accompanying all convoys, staffed with senior resident doctors to handle any medical emergencies.
The health department has assembled 80 teams of doctors and nursing staff to address medical issues and emergencies at hotels, with 75 teams working in shifts. A fleet of 70 advanced ambulances, along with 60 well-equipped ones, will be on standby during the event.
The five government hospitals on high alert are Lok Nayak Hospital, GB Pant Hospital, GTB Hospital, Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, and Babasaheb Ambedkar Hospital. Additionally, three private hospitals—Primus Hospital-Chanakyapuri, Max Hospital-Saket, and Manipal Hospital-Dwarka—have been strategically chosen for their proximity to guest accommodations.
A state-of-the-art medical emergency facility with ICU services has been established at the Bharat Mandapam, with similar arrangements at Ram Mahohar Lohia Hospital and the All India Institute of Medical Sciences. Other government and private hospitals have also been directed to make provisions for handling potential emergencies.
The Delhi Police is set to assist medical emergency vehicles, with the Ambulance Assistance Control Room operational from the night of September 7 to September 11, reachable at numbers 6828400604 and 112. Traffic police personnel will be stationed in control rooms, and medical emergency vehicle assistance teams will be deployed at key intersections throughout the city, ensuring the smooth movement of emergency vehicles without restrictions.
