Admission process for nursery, KG, and Class 1 begins in Delhi schools

According to a circular by the Directorate of Education, general category admission to Delhi’s private schools for nursery, KG, and Class 1 started on Thursday.

The deadline for submitting admission forms is December 15; the first admissions list will be made public on January 12.

Sudha Acharya, the principal of ITL Public School, stated that the majority of admissions take place online and that parents can quickly access the form by scanning a QR code.

“We just started the registration process and it is happening mostly online. We have done a new thing this year, that is adding a QR code for parents to access the form easily. Parents can scan the code and access the admission form. There are introductory videos also. Most of the parents are working people, so this is working well for them,” Acharya said.

She further mentioned that there are 190 nursery seats available at ITL Public School and that parents submit over 2,000 enrollment requests annually.

In private schools, there is a twenty-five percent seat reservation set aside for students from economically weaker sections (EWS), disadvantaged groups (DG), and children with disability. A separate list will be released for them.

The notification states that the minimum age requirements for admission to pre-school (nursery), pre-primary (KG), and Class 1 shall be three years, four years, and five years, respectively, as of March 31.

Entry-level classes include preschool, pre-primary, and Class 1, with lower age requirements of less than four, less than five, and less than six years old, respectively.

The notification stated that “age relaxation for admission of up to 30 days may be granted at the level of the head of school in the minimum and upper-age limits for these classes”.

Following the release of the first list, schools can answer queries from parents from January 13-22, it stated.

“Parents may approach the head of school/principal for seeking age relaxation through a manual application,” the notification stated.

The DoE also directed that a monitoring cell should be constituted in each district under the chairmanship of the district’s deputy director.

These officials should “ensure that private unaided recognised schools must upload the criteria and their points on the online module available on its website as per the time-line prescribed, and further ensure that the school shall not adopt those criteria, which were abolished by the department and upheld by the high court”, the notification stated.

“The monitoring cells shall also ensure that all schools upload the details of children who applied for admission under open seats and points allotted to each of them under their point system and details of all the children admitted in the school on the DoE website,” it stated.

By November 20, schools must upload their points and entrance requirements to the online module.

If there is a tie amongst the applicants, a draw of lots will be done in front of the parents using slips or a computerised method. The lottery drawing will be recorded on camera, and the school will keep the recording.

According to the notification, parents may only be required to pay a registration cost of Rs 25 and are not required to purchase the prospectus in addition to the admission form.

Last year, the first day of the admissions process was December 1.
