Delhi residents woke up to clear skies on Friday, as the minimum temperature settled at 9.5 degrees Celsius, which is slightly above the average for this time of the season. The morning brought a high humidity level of 95 per cent at 8:30 am, indicating moisture-laden air across the city.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the maximum temperature is expected to rise to 26 degrees Celsius during the day, providing a relatively warm yet pleasant atmosphere.

However, air quality remained a major concern, with pollution levels recorded in the “very poor” category. At 9 am, the Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 349, as per the data from the Central Pollution Control Board.

The AQI scale categorises air quality into different levels: a reading between zero and 50 is considered good, 51 to 100 is satisfactory, 101 to 200 is moderate, 201 to 300 falls under the poor category, 301 to 400 is very poor, and an AQI between 401 and 500 is classified as severe.

Despite the clear skies and a slight rise in temperature, the deteriorating air quality continues to pose health risks, especially for children, the elderly, and individuals with respiratory conditions. Authorities advise residents to take necessary precautions, such as limiting outdoor activities and wearing protective masks when stepping outside.

As winter gradually transitions to spring, fluctuations in temperature and pollution levels are expected to continue in the coming days. The IMD and pollution control agencies remain vigilant, monitoring weather patterns and air quality to provide timely updates and warnings for Delhi’s residents.
