The national capital on Friday experienced its coldest temperature of the winter, dropping to 3.9 degrees Celsius, which is three notches below the seasonal average, according to the weather department.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported that this marks the lowest minimum temperature in the past five years.

The city also witnessed dense fog, causing zero visibility at the Palam Observatory at 5:30 am, as per the IMD. This fog led to delays of one to six hours for 23 Delhi-bound trains, according to the Indian Railways.

The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) recorded an overall Air Quality Index (AQI) of 348 at 9 am. As a reference, an AQI between zero and 50 is considered good, 51 and 100 satisfactory, 101 and 200 moderate, 201 and 300 poor, 301 and 400 very poor, and 401 and 500 severe.

The relative humidity at 8:30 am reached 100 per cent, according to the IMD bulletin. The maximum temperature for the day is expected to be around 17 degrees Celsius. (With inputs from PTI)
