The Delhi government introduced the ‘Sugamya Sahayak’ initiative to empower individuals with benchmark disabilities by providing them with aids and appliances, announced Social Welfare Minister Raaj Kumar Anand on Thursday.

Anand highlighted that the scheme is designed to improve the mobility and capabilities of Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBDs) and aims to foster a society where all citizens can prosper.

“The scheme will empower lives and eliminate barriers, contributing to a more accessible and inclusive Delhi. By offering aids and appliances, it will enhance the mobility and capabilities of PwBDs, fostering an environment where everyone can thrive,” said Anand.

“The Delhi government is committed to creating a society where mobility is unrestricted, and individuals, irrespective of their abilities, can access opportunities for growth,” he said.

As per the Delhi government, the ‘Sugamya Sahayak’ scheme aims to facilitate mobility and capabilities by providing durable and standardised aids and appliances, assisting PwBDs in overcoming physical environmental barriers.

To be eligible for the scheme’s benefits, applicants must have a disability of 40 percent or more, as indicated by the Disability Certificate/UDID Card issued by an authorised medical authority under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016.

“The applicants must be residents of the NCT of Delhi, with a family income limit not exceeding Rs 8 lakh from all sources annually. Additionally, the applicant should not have received the same item from any other scheme of a state government/ UT government, administration, Central government, or any other source in the last three years,” Delhi government said.

For children below 12 years of age, there is no applicable limit for fabricated appliances. (With inputs from PTI)
