All BS VI-compliant diesel vehicles will now be allowed to be registered for inter-state stage carriage in Delhi.

In a recent development, the Supreme Court, in an order dated July 24, has revised its previous ruling regarding the registration of diesel vehicles complying with BS VI standards in Delhi for inter-state stage carriage.

This modification now permits the registration of all BS VI-compliant diesel vehicles in the national capital, irrespective of their prior requirement for the G20 Summit.

Citing the Supreme Court’s judgment, an order issued by the Delhi transport department states that they are now allowing the registration of all BS VI-compliant diesel vehicles in GNCT of Delhi for inter-state stage carriage, All India Tourist Permit (AITP) holders with a capacity of more than 7+1 persons, coaches, and buses.

The Delhi Taxi and Tourist Transporters’ Operators’ Association has expressed their approval of this decision. However, they did raise concerns about the delay in the issuance of the transport department order.

In a statement, they welcomed the decision, highlighting that it would contribute to the Delhi government’s revenue through registration fees.

Furthermore, they pointed out that these registered buses and tempo travelers have lower emissions compared to CNG vehicles, which should result in reduced pollution levels in the city. (With inputs from PTI)
