Delhi AIIMS to set up Covid screening OPD as cases rise, 12 beds for seriously ill patients

Amid a surge in cases, AIIMS-Delhi has announced plans to establish a dedicated COVID-19 screening OPD within the emergency department, alongside the allocation of 12 beds in a specific ward for the admission of critically ill patients.

As per a recently released office memo, a screening Out-Patient Department (OPD) will be initiated within the emergency wing to assess individuals for symptoms resembling Covid-19 and categorize them based on their medical necessities.

AIIMS-Delhi’s Director, M Srinivas, chaired a meeting on Wednesday specifically addressing the protocols for managing severely affected COVID-19 patients.

In a deviation from prior circulars/guidelines, AIIMS-Delhi has additionally decided to conduct tests for patients displaying symptoms akin to Severe Acute Respiratory Infections (SARI).

Each department will arrange suitable provisions within their allocated wards to cater to in-patients diagnosed with COVID-19, as stated in the office memorandum.

The document further specifies the reservation of 12 beds in the C6 ward for the admission of critically ill COVID-19 patients.

Moreover, an additional 12 rooms within the new private ward will be designated for the hospitalization of EHS beneficiaries who test positive for Covid. (With inputs from PTI)
