Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi called upon Delhi’s voters to exercise their franchise in the assembly elections taking place on Wednesday.
In a post on X, he extended special greetings to first-time young voters.
Emphasising the importance of voting, he urged, “Pahle matdaan, phir jalpaan” (First vote, have your meal later).
He encouraged voters to actively participate in the democratic process with enthusiasm.
Modi has led the BJP’s vigorous campaign against the Aam Aadmi Party, which has been in power in Delhi since 2015.
Voting commenced at 7 am on Wednesday, with approximately 1.56 crore eligible voters heading to the polls.
Polling is underway at 13,766 stations across all 70 Assembly constituencies, where the fate of 699 candidates will be decided in an election that could reshape Delhi’s political landscape.
As voter turnout is expected to be a crucial factor, all eyes are on the electorate as they cast their votes.
In the 2020 assembly elections, Delhi recorded a voter turnout of 62.59 per cent, whereas only 56 per cent of voters participated in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
