Delhi Chief Minister and Finance Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday presented the Budget for the financial year 2025-26, with an outlay of Rs 1 lakh crore, reflecting a 31.5% increase from the previous year.

Terming it a “historic Budget,” Gupta declared that the era of “corruption and inefficiency” was over, highlighting that the capital expenditure had been doubled to Rs 28,000 crore. The enhanced spending will be directed towards strengthening Delhi’s infrastructure, including the development of roads, sewer systems, and water supply networks.

The Budget prioritises ten key sectors, including electricity, roads, water, and connectivity. The Delhi government has allocated Rs 1,000 crore to improve transport links within the Delhi-NCR region.

In a significant welfare measure, Rs 5,100 crore has been earmarked to provide Rs 2,500 per month to eligible women. Additionally, Rs 2,144 crore has been allocated for the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana to boost healthcare services in the capital.

This marks the first Budget presented by a BJP-led government in Delhi after 26 years, following the party’s victory over the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in last month’s Assembly elections. In comparison, the AAP government had presented a Budget worth Rs 76,000 crore for 2024-25, later revised to Rs 77,000 crore.
