Delhi: A court here on Wednesday extended the judicial custody of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal till July 12 in the money laundering case related to the alleged excise policy scam.

Kejriwal, currently in jail until July 12 for a CBI case connected to the excise policy, appeared before Special Judge Kaveri Baweja’s court via video conference.

The court has reserved its order on Kejriwal’s application to allow his wife, Sunita Kejriwal, to be present as an attendant during his medical checkup for June 6.

During the proceedings, Kejriwal requested permission to speak, but the court noted that he was already represented by his counsels.

Kejriwal argued that his wife had been instrumental in managing his health over the years, possessing detailed knowledge of his ailments and medical history. He emphasized that granting her access to his medical records weekly was justifiable and essential.

“Transparency in his medical care is not only a legal requirement but also a critical component of ethical medical practice. Therefore, the applicant (Arvind Kejriwal) and his wife must be duly informed of all aspects of the treatment being administered, ensuring their capability to make informed decisions about his health,” the plea stated.

It sought a court directive for prison authorities to allow Sunita Kejriwal to be his attendant during medical consultations or follow-ups with the medical board or doctors. This would also permit her to independently consult and seek advice from them.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has opposed the application.
