The Delhi Traffic Police has issued an advisory to commuters as key roads in the national capital are flooded with water from the rising Yamuna River. As of now, the water level of the Yamuna River in Delhi exceeded the danger mark, reaching 208.48 meters.

The increase in water level and subsequent inundation of low-lying areas has severely affected traffic movement. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has announced the closure of schools in flood-affected areas. Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena has scheduled a special meeting of the Delhi Disaster Management Authority to discuss the flood situation.

The flooding of the Yamuna River has also disrupted Delhi metro operations. The approach road leading to the Yamuna Bank Metro Station is currently inaccessible due to the escalating water levels.

Numerous areas in Delhi have been affected by the overflowing Yamuna River, causing traffic disruptions on several roads. Some of the affected areas include Chandgiram Akhada on ISBT road, Nigam Bodh Ghat road, Indira Gandhi Stadium road, Ring Road near ITO, GT Karnal road, Old Yamuna bridge (‘Loha Pul’), and low-lying areas near Kashmiri Gate.

The traffic movement has been severely impacted on Mahatma Gandhi Marg between IP Flyover and Chandgi Ram Akhara, Mahatma Gandhi Marg between Kalighat Mandir and Delhi Secretariat, and Outer Ring Road between Wazirabad Bridge and Chandgi Ram Akhara.

Furthermore, traffic movement has been restricted in both carriageways from ISBT towards Majnu Ka Tila and vice-versa due to the rising water level of the Yamuna River.

Commuters have been advised by officials to avoid the affected roads and plan their journeys accordingly. Traffic movement is also closed on Bhairon Road due to overflow of drain water near Railway Under Bridge. However, the Pragati Maidan Tunnel is now open for vehicular traffic.

To manage the situation, the Delhi Traffic Police has implemented traffic diversion points. Here are the details:

Outer Ring Road (Rohini to ISBT): Traffic movement permitted only towards GTK.

GTK Road to ISBT (from Sonepat side): Traffic movement currently closed and redirected to the opposite side.

GTK Hood to Azadpur under Mukarba Chowk Flyover: Traffic diverted towards Rohini.

Singhu Border: Traffic redirected to the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway.

Mukarba Chowk: Traffic diverted to Peeragarhi Chowk and Narela side.

Bhalswa: Traffic redirected to Peeragarhi and Narela side.

Passenger buses from Haryana and Punjab will terminate at Singhu Border.

Additionally, the traffic police announced that the movement of non-destined commercial vehicles will be regulated. Such vehicles will not be allowed to enter Delhi and will be diverted to the Eastern and Western Peripheral Expressways. Commercial vehicles will be redirected from Mukarba Chowk, Sarai Kale Khan, Ghazipur border, and Akshardham towards DND. No commercial vehicles will be permitted between Mukarba Chowk and Wazirabad Bridge, Sarai Kale Khan and IP Flyover, as well as Akshardham and Sarai Kale Khan, as stated in the advisory.
