Delhi : Acting upon the directive of Lt Governor V K Saxena, the Delhi government issued orders on Monday to suspend the transfer of 5,000 school teachers who have served in the same school for more than 10 years.

This decision came after Lt Governor Saxena instructed Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar to temporarily suspend the transfer orders that were issued the previous week. The directive followed a meeting where a delegation comprising Delhi BJP leaders and teachers’ representatives met with the Lt Governor.

Delhi’s Education Minister Atishi, addressing a press conference, alleged that the transfer orders were part of a conspiracy by the BJP. She also expressed satisfaction over the withdrawal of the orders and congratulated the people of Delhi on this development.

In an official statement, the education department acknowledged receiving numerous representations regarding the recent transfer orders issued by the Directorate of Education (DoE) pertaining to teachers who have completed more than 10 years at the same school.

The department announced the formation of a committee comprising stakeholders and experts to review the matter comprehensively and fairly.

The official order stated, “Pending further orders, the transfer orders issued on 02.07.2024 for teachers are kept in abeyance. Postings of all such teachers are restored as on 01.07.2024.”

Earlier, a circular titled ‘Online requests for transfer of teaching staff of the Directorate of Education’ had mandated that all teachers serving for more than 10 years at one school must apply for a transfer. Failing to do so would result in their transfer to another school by the DoE, as per the circular issued on June 11.

Recently, Atishi had instructed the chief secretary to immediately halt the compulsory transfer of teachers who have been serving in the same school for over 10 years, following allegations of corruption in the transfer process. (With inputs from PTI)
