The Delhi government will launch 200 new electric buses, including 56 Ladies Special catering to high-demand routes and university areas, officials said on Tuesday.

With this launch slated for Wednesday, Delhi’s overall bus fleet will reach 6,800 buses, comprising 4,938 electric buses and 1,750 CNG buses.

“The latest initiatives mark another significant step in strengthening Delhi’s public transport infrastructure while advancing the city’s transition towards clean and sustainable mobility. The initiatives are aligned with the broader vision of building a greener, cleaner and future-ready Delhi,” transport minister Pankaj Singh said.

As per the plan, Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) will introduce 30 Ladies Special trips on 15 high-demand routes and 26 University Ladies Special (U-SPL) trips on 13 routes.

Singh said the dedicated services have been designed keeping in mind the daily travel requirements of working women and students.

“The special buses will provide convenience during peak hours and connecting residential areas with employment and government hubs such as Nehru Place, AIIMS, South Extension, RK Puram, Connaught Place, ITO, Delhi Secretariat, Karol Bagh, Kashmiri Gate and Shivaji Stadium,” he added.

These low-floor, air-conditioned buses are equipped with modern passenger amenities including CCTV cameras, panic buttons, real-time tracking and accessibility features for differently-abled passengers, he added.

According to officials, the U-SPL services will provide connectivity to major institutions including Hindu College, Ramjas College, Daulat Ram College, Sri Ram College, LSR, Gargi College, Hansraj College, SPM College, Deshbandhu College etc.

“DTC will also launch five fully electric, air-conditioned buses on the historic Delhi-Karnal route. The service will offer 10 daily trips in each direction over the approximately 133-km one-way corridor,” the minister added.

He added that the new fleet includes 88 12-metre electric buses and 112 DEVI 9-metre electric buses.
