Delhi: Overnight showers improve air quality; more rain likely

Heavy rains are likely on Tuesday in the Delhi, which witnessed an improvement in the air quality following overnight showers.

The minimum temperature settled at 25.6 degrees Celsius and the maximum is expected to settle around 32 degrees Celsius.

Till 8.30 am, Safdarjung recorded 10.6 mm of cumulative rainfall, Ridge 18.6 mm, Ayanagar 17.4 mm, Palam 15 mm and Lodhi Road 12.2 mm.

Station-wise data showed the minimum temperature settled at 25.6 degrees Celsius at Safdarjung, which was 1.7 notches below normal, 23.6 degrees Celsius at Palam, 3.3 notches below normal, 25 degrees Celsius at Lodhi Road, 1 notch below normal, 22.4 degrees Celsius at Ridge, 3.9 notches below normal, and 25.8 degrees Celsius at Ayanagar, 0.6 notch below normal.

Overnight showers also helped improve the city’s air quality, with Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) standing at 88 at 9 am, placing it in the ‘satisfactory’ category.

According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), an AQI between 51 and 100 is considered ‘satisfactory’, while 0-50 is classified as ‘good’, 101-200 as ‘moderate’, 201-300 as ‘poor’, 301-400 as ‘very poor’ and 401-500 as ‘severe’.
