The national capital saw a slight increase in the minimum temperature on Saturday, amid the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) forecast of light rain and gusty winds.

Safdarjung, the city’s base weather station, recorded a minimum temperature of 29 degrees Celsius, 1.1 degrees below normal and a 0.9 degree increase from a day before.

Other weather stations also marked a similar increase in the minimum temperature on Saturday. Palam recorded a minimum temperature of 27.1 degrees Celsius, a 1.2 degree increase from the day before; Lodhi Road recorded a minimum of 28.6 degrees Celsius, 0.6 degree more than Friday’s minimum; Ridge and Ayanagar recorded a minimum of 26.3 degrees and 27.6 degrees Celsius respectively, each 1.8 degrees lower than that on Friday.

No alerts have been issued for the day by the IMD, but scattered rain and cloudy conditions are expected to persist throughout the day.

“There is a possibility of very light to light rain, accompanied by thunderstorm, lightning and gusty wind of speed 40-50 kmph towards the afternoon and evening,” said an IMD official.

The IMD has forecast similar weather conditions to continue for the next few days.

According to the IMD forecast, the maximum might see a further drop on Saturday and is likely to be around 34-36 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, the air quality index (AQI) of the city remained in the moderate category on Saturday morning and was recorded at 122 at 8 am, as compared to the 24-hour average AQI of 105 recorded at 4 pm on Friday, according to the data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

As per CPCB standards, an AQI of 0-50 is considered ‘good’, 51-100 ‘satisfactory’, 101-200 ‘moderate’, 201-300 ‘poor’, 301-400 ‘very poor’, and 401-500 ‘severe’.
