A massive fire broke out at Bikkgane Biryani restaurant in Connaught Place on Thursday morning, leaving six people with severe burn injuries, officials from the Delhi Fire Services (DFS) confirmed.
The fire, reportedly caused by an LPG cylinder leak in the restaurant’s kitchen, was reported around 11:55 am. The DFS promptly dispatched six fire tenders to the scene, but efforts to bring the blaze under control were still ongoing, officials said.
All six injured were taken to the RML Hospital in the city for medical treatment. “A total of six fire tenders were rushed after an LPG cylinder leakage was reported and six persons sustained burn injuries due to the fire,” officials said. Police identified the victims as Deepak (39), Piyush (31), Mahindra (25), Alam (21), Sairuddin (28) and Janak (26).
“Deepak and Piyush sustained 70% burn injuries. Mahindra sustained 81% burn injuries while Alam, Sairuddin and Janak sustained less than 30% burn injuries,” they added.
Initial reports suggest that the fire erupted due to an LPG leakage, which ignited and spread rapidly. Firefighters worked swiftly to evacuate staff and customers while containing the flames.
