The Delhi Democratic Teachers’ Forum on Wednesday addressed a letter to Education Minister Atishi, urging a reconsideration of the compensation provided to guest teachers employed in city government schools.

The letter emphasised that a significant number of guest teachers have dedicated a considerable amount of time to their roles and lack alternative sources of income, underscoring the need for fair remuneration.

“The guest teachers play a crucial role in the teaching community of the Directorate of Education, demonstrating utmost sincerity and efficiency in their duties. Given that many of them have been contributing their services for an extended period without alternative income, it is essential that they receive reasonable remuneration,” the letter stated.

Highlighting that the last adjustment in their remuneration dates back to 2017, the communication expressed concern that the current compensation does not adequately reflect the importance of their role and responsibilities as educators.

“Since 2017, the rising rates of inflation have created a financial challenge for guest teachers, and the current remuneration falls short of doing justice to their pivotal role in education. Meeting even the immediate needs of their families and ensuring their children’s education has become nearly impossible with the current low remuneration,” the letter further reads.
