Delhi woke up to moderate rainfall on Monday, a day after the city received heavy showers.

Large parts of the national capital, including the posh civil lines and Lutyen’s Delhi, was left flooded after days of heavy to very heavy showers and the eventual swelling up of the Yamuna river.

On Sunday evening, heavy rainfall occurred in certain areas of the national capital, even as the water level in the Yamuna River dropped to 205.98 meters.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Delhi is expected to experience generally cloudy skies with light rain and thundershowers on Monday.

The floods led to the evacuation of thousands from low-lying regions.

The Yamuna River has been flowing at a high level for the past week, reaching 207.71 meters on Wednesday, surpassing the previous record of 207.49 meters set in 1978. The water level receded to 207.98 meters at 11 pm on Friday from 208.66 meters on Thursday, still three meters above the danger mark of 205.33 meters. The IMD reported a rainfall of 13.2 mm in the last 24 hours until 8:30 am.

The maximum temperature in the city on Sunday was recorded at 35.4 degrees Celsius. The IMD predicts that on Monday, the maximum and minimum temperatures in Delhi will be around 35 and 27 degrees Celsius, respectively.

The relative humidity ranged from 67 percent to 98 percent, as reported by the Meteorological Department.

On Saturday, the maximum temperature settled slightly below the seasonal average at 34.6 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature was 27.1 degrees Celsius.
