Delhi Weather: Air quality dips to ‘moderate’

Delhi Weather: The air quality in the national capital slipped to the ‘moderate’ category on Monday with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 108, after two days of ‘satisfactory’ air.

According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi recorded an AQI of 99 on Sunday, marking the second consecutive day of ‘satisfactory’ air quality.

On Saturday, the city experienced its cleanest air between January 1 and March 15 in the last three years, with an AQI of 85, marking the first ‘satisfactory’ air quality day of 2025.

The AQI scale categorises air quality as follows: 0-50 ‘good,’ 51-100 ‘satisfactory,’ 101-200 ‘moderate,’ 201-300 ‘poor,’ 301-400 ‘very poor,’ and 401-500 ‘severe.’

Delhi’s maximum temperature on Monday stood at 29.2 degrees Celsius, 2.1 notches below the seasonal average, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

The minimum temperature was recorded at 16.8 degrees Celsius, with humidity levels ranging between 74 per cent and 44 per cent.

The IMD has forecast strong winds for Tuesday, which could help disperse pollutants. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to be around 32 degrees Celsius and 17 degrees Celsius, respectively.

Purana Qila’s light and sound show delayed amid revamp plans

The much-anticipated light and sound show at the historic Purana Qila has been delayed once again as authorities undertake a revamp to enhance its visual appeal. “The light and sound show has been postponed for a few more months as we are upgrading and revamping the site,” said an official from the Ministry of Tourism, without confirming the exact timeline. The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Tourism to execute the project. It is being carried out by the India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) under the Union Ministry of Tourism in collaboration with ASI.

ASI shelves plan to introduce cultural events, facilities at Safdarjung Tomb

The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has dropped its plan to allow cultural events and introduce other facilities at Safdarjung Tomb, Patriot has learned. “Among the planned upgrades were a cafeteria, state-of-the-art elevators, and regular cultural events, all designed to enhance the visitor experience after dark. However, the department objected due to the presence of graveyards at the monument, and for now, the plan has been shelved,” an ASI official said. In an effort to revitalise and promote the rich cultural heritage of Safdarjung Tomb, the Dalmia Foundation, which has adopted the monument under the government’s ‘Adopt a Heritage’ programme, proposed a series of innovative changes aimed at boosting night tourism.
