Election Results 2024: While the exit polls seem to have been over-optimistic about the BJP-led NDA’s performance in the rest of the country, at least going by the early trends, their indications for Delhi seem to have been spot on.

Most of the big exit polls had given the BJP 6-7 parliamentary seats of Delhi, and the INDIA bloc 1-0 seats, with the toughest competition set to be in Chandni Chowk, which is how the poll in Delhi is playing out right now.

The BJP is leading in six Lok Sabha seats, while the Congress is leading in one seat in Delhi, according to the latest trends by the Election Commission.

In Chandni Chowk, BJP’s Praveen Khandelwal is trailing with 31,739 votes, behind Congress’s Jai Prakash Agarwal, who is leading with 33,029 votes, holding a margin of 1,290 votes.

In New Delhi, BJP’s Bansuri Swaraj is leading with 42,613 votes, maintaining a lead of 4,239 votes over AAP’s Somnath Bharti, who has received 38,374 votes.

In North-East Delhi, BJP’s Manoj Tiwari is leading with 54,244 votes, significantly ahead by 18,296 votes compared to Congress’s Kanhaiya Kumar, who has 35,948 votes.

In North-West Delhi, BJP’s Yogender Chandoliya is leading with 51,321 votes, enjoying a margin of 18,715 votes over Congress’s Udit Raj, who has 32,606 votes.

In South Delhi, BJP’s Ramvir Singh Bidhuri is ahead with 63,699 votes, leading by 9,332 votes against AAP’s Sahi Ram, who has 54,367 votes.

In West Delhi, BJP’s Kamaljeet Sehrawat is leading with 72,505 votes, holding a significant lead of 20,619 votes over AAP’s Mahabal Mishra, who has 51,886 votes.

The BJP is in a direct contest with the Congress-Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) alliance in the national capital. All seven seats are being fiercely contested, reflecting the high stakes and intense political competition in Delhi.

Despite the scorching heat, Delhi saw a voter turnout of 53.73% by 5 p.m. on election day. The city has a vast electorate of 1.52 crore voters, including 82 lakh men, 69 lakh women, and 1,228 individuals from the third gender category. Voting took place across more than 13,000 polling booths.

An overall dip has been observed in turnout — 53.73% — this time against a polling percentage of 60.6% in 2019. While Northeast Delhi saw the highest (62.98%), the lowest polling percentage was from New Delhi (55.43%).

According to Election Commission of India statistics, the lowest victory margin in 2019, at 2.28 lakh votes, was recorded in the Chandni Chow,k seat with incumbent BJP MP Dr Harsh Vardhan claiming almost 53% of the vote share.

At 5.78 lakh votes, the highest victory margin was recorded in the West Delh,i seat where incumbent BJP MP Parvesh Verma had claimed almost 60% of the vote share.

The BJP has a strong electoral history in Delhi, having won all seven Lok Sabha seats in the 2014 and 2019 general elections. This trend appears to be continuing as the latest counts show BJP candidates leading in each constituency.
