Fog blankets Delhi, train services disrupted

A thick layer of fog shrouded Delhi on Tuesday morning, bringing visibility down to zero and causing disruptions in train schedules, officials reported.

By 6 am, a total of 39 trains were running late, with delays ranging from 30 minutes to as much as four hours.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that “Zero visibility has persisted over Palam since 4:30 IST, with southeasterly winds at 6-8 kmph.”

At Safdarjung, visibility remained as low as 50 metres in dense fog from 5:30 IST, accompanied by calm winds, according to the IMD.

Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 8.9 degrees Celsius, which is 1.5 degrees above normal, while the air quality was categorized as poor.

The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) air quality bulletin recorded the AQI at 9 am at 256, falling under the poor category.

The IMD forecasted dense to very dense fog throughout the day, with the maximum temperature expected to hover around 19 degrees Celsius.

As per AQI standards, a reading between 0-50 indicates good air quality, 51-100 satisfactory, 101-200 moderate, 201-300 poor, 301-400 very poor, and 401-500 severe.
