Police in Gurugram have filed charges against the outgoing councillor of the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG), his criminal sibling, and 16 others following a violent clash between two rival families that left six people wounded, officials reported on Saturday.
Authorities have apprehended 12 suspects thus far in connection with the incident, which occurred on Friday evening in Dhanwapur village. DCP (West) Karan Goel stated that over two dozen police officers were dispatched to the scene, where the situation has been brought under control.
During the hour-long altercation, gunshots were exchanged and four vehicles were vandalized. One faction purportedly attempted to run over two individuals with a car.
The altercation allegedly began when MCG outgoing councillor Navin Dahiya and his brother Sunil, also known as Tota, leader of the Tota gang, assaulted their neighbor Dinesh Dahiya and his family with sticks.
Tota, recently released on bail, had been embroiled in a long-standing feud with the Dahiya family over control of soil excavation and water supply businesses.
On Friday evening, Tota and his associates reportedly attacked Dinesh and two others at his office in Surat Nagar. Dinesh, 50, sustained serious injuries and was hospitalized at Medanta.
Subsequently, Dinesh’s family staged a protest outside Tota’s residence, prompting retaliation from Tota’s henchmen who fired shots into the air. A confrontation ensued, resulting in five injuries and vehicle damage.
Despite police intervention, the suspects had fled the village by the time law enforcement arrived. An FIR was lodged against nine individuals based on a complaint filed by Dinesh’s family member, Himanshu Dahiya.
A counter FIR was filed against nine others by Monika, a member of Tota’s family. Authorities have arrested 12 suspects, with additional arrests expected following analysis of CCTV footage. Precautionary measures have been taken by deploying a police force in the village.
