A neighbour of a 24-year-old woman who allegedly died by suicide in Nangloi recalled the chilling moments when he saw her body hanging inside her room while her one-and-a-half-year-old daughter cried nearby.
After the woman was found hanging from a ceiling fan at her matrimonial home on Tuesday morning, police registered a case against her husband and in-laws under Sections 85 (cruelty by husband or relatives) and 108 (abetment to suicide) of the BNS.
Deepak, who lives in the same building, said he was leaving for work around 9 am when he saw the woman’s husband trying to break open a window.
“I live on the second floor, while they live on the first. It was morning, and I was going to my office around 9 am. I saw her husband trying to break the window. I asked him what happened, and he said that she had committed suicide,” Deepak said.

“I saw the body hanging, and the one-and-a-half-year-old daughter was in the room as well, crying. So we somehow broke the window. Then the husband went inside and opened the door of the room,” he said.
Deepak said the couple had been living in the building in outer Delhi for the past few months and had been married for around two-and-a-half years.
“The husband used to go for work at night and return in the morning,” he said.
According to police, no suicide note was found. However, investigators recovered a video clip of over three minutes from the deceased’s mobile phone in which she allegedly accused her in-laws of harassment.
In the video, she appealed to her parents not to fight over her death and urged them to take care of her daughter. Police said investigation is underway.
